Cycling in Saint Petersburg, FL

Life just got better here in St. Pete’s this week as Lucy and I picked up our new set of wheels.   After test riding and contemplating many bikes since we bought our home here, I decided on the Townie by Electra.  Also, falling off my old mountain bike that I brought down from BC and breaking my arm in April, confirmed that an upright city bike was what I needed to cycle around the city.

The Townie 7D has seven speeds and come in many cool colours and I chose the pink one with the lime green tire rims and basket.  I purchased the dog carrier that has a spring loaded attachment that clamps onto the bike rack at the rear, which is easily removed when Lucy is not riding shotgun on the back.

Saint Petersburg is a fantastic place to ride your bike so we rode into town for the fireworks on the 4th of July, had a beer on Beach Avenue then walked down to the waterfront and watched the fireworks at 10 pm.  We left both Lucy and my camera at home, so sorry no pics.  After the amazing display we hopped on our bikes and zigzagged through the crowds of people and cars and were on our way home.

On the topic of fireworks, the Americans do love the 4th of July fireworks.  Friday night we could hear the fireworks from various parts of the city until very late into the night.  Also, they started again on Saturday night (July 5th) so I wonder if there will be more tonight !!!

Today, we rode our bikes to the Arts District of St. Petersburg and had Sunday brunch at the Queens Head Restaurant on Central Avenue.  This pet friendly restaurant is a definite must for brunch and we plan to return for an evening out.
