Day 10 – New Orleans, LA to Tallahassee, FL

Yesterday I was having trouble walking as my big toe was hurting, but today I woke up with a swollen foot and big toe so after breakfast , I went to see a local GP in New Orleans and was diagnosed with Gout.  This has really cramped my ability to get around as my left foot and toe are very sore, so it was definitely time to leave New Orleans.  After picking up some medications and a pair of flip flops we started our drive to Tallahassee around 1 pm.

We are determined to get to Tallahassee as we have an appointment there at 730 am. on Wednesday morning to have the car checked out at the Mercedes dealership there.  We have been driving for the last 3 or 4 days with the “Check Engine” light on but according to the manual this could mean a number of things.  The car is driving good and there doesn’t appear to be any problem but we didn’t want to drive much further and gamble that the car might break down on the highway just as we were approaching Florida.

This was another long day of driving and we didn’t arrive in Tallahassee until after 10 pm.  We thought we would take the scenic route along the water of the Florida “Panhandle” but forgot that it gets dark early and we only had some great water views around Pensacola Florida late in the afternoon.  So we stopped there on the beach to take Lucy for a walk as well as admire the white sandy beaches and interesting homes.  What a gorgeous part of the world !  This would be another great place to spend some time but onward we go !

Today we drove approximately 620 km for a total of 5,915 km to date.

After a long day of driving, we were glad to settle into our last hotel stay of the journey as tomorrow we would be homeward bound to St. Petersburg, Florida.
