Florida Home Renovations – Yvonne’s Project #1

My first project when we returned to Florida in early April was to update and clean the patio furniture that was left behind by the previous owners.  The furniture was sturdy and we liked the fact that the chairs swiveled, so we decide to refurbish them.  The chairs were in reasonably good condition except they were in desperate need of cleaning and the cushions had to go.  Also, with the wonderful warm (Ok hot !) weather in Florida and no kitchen we would sitting and eating outside more than we would inside.

The chairs took a while to clean as each strap had to be rubbed clean individually as the grim was baked on.  The patio table was rusty and coloured black and I wanted to paint it white to match the chairs.  This took a lot of elbow grease to sand down the rusty spots and  five cans of spray paint to cover the black.

Given the sun and salt water, we decided to ordered “Sunbrella” custom cushion that would withstand fading, UV damage and mildew instead of buying cheaper cushions off the shelf.  In the end, were very pleased with the results of re-purposing this old patio furniture and saved a bundle of money on not having to buy a new patio set.

Hope to see you in Florida one day so we can enjoy a cool drink sitting on our patio furniture !  Cheers !
